The Garmin Foretrex 401 first impressions

Well guys, although this won't be a full review it would rather be a quick introduction to the newly acquired Foretrex 401 by Garmin. For some of  you who might not be familiar with Foretrex, it's a handheld GPS, although it lacks the capabilities of the full-size GPS's of Garmin, the compact size 7.5 x 4.3 x 2.3 cm (or 2.9" x 1.7" x 0.9" if you are not a fan of the metric system) and the minimum weight 87.3 g ensures the most comfort and the reduced silhouette when you wear it. Now, as far as the functions themselves, you have almost everything you could ask from a hiking/trail GPS. You can set waypoints to guide you from a place to another, tracks where you can save a track and retrace it, routes, jumpmaster, elevation, speed, a compass, the only thing that lacks is a full-scale 2D or 3D map which again, depending on the use or the situation, you might not need it. But anything else that you might need when you are up in a mountain, is all available at your wrist and if you combine the Foretrex with some other equipment from Garmin, such as their action cams or their fitness belts, then you can have a full track of biometrics to footage etc. Truly an amazing piece of equipment which I look forward to using to its full potential at a milsim game. I hope you liked it! Till next time you can enjoy some photos!

AVS (Adjustible Vest System) by TMC

Good afternoon gents and ladies following my first post regarding the V-TAC Brokos belt (which I hope you enjoyed) it's time to write about the other half of my standard gear the AVS repro made by TMC. But before I continue to the actual post let's review a bit of history which has lead us to today.
You see I'm a "why" guy, I have been and I always will be that's why I spent almost 5 to 6 months back at 2010 ,when I first made the decision to make airsoft my hobby, browsing through pictures at the time showing gears types of vests, body armors etc. And so my first vest was a bad MBSS repro the reason why I ended up with this was because it was minimal (at the time at least), had no cummerbunds, and I could have six mid-caps two bb loaders and a utility pouch all in a relatively small and compact package. But then I switched to the other end and I was using two CIRAS maritime one black made by Swiss Arms and one made by Pantac (that was my first serious purchase). At first all was good, I could carry a ton more equipment, mags, hydros, everything. But I had other issues, I was making to much noise, I was taking too much space trying to move through narrow corridors or entering and clearing a room, not mentioning the silhouette and the increased image that I presented to my opponents and the close to non mobility and maneuverability CIRAS gave me. And I was starting to need something that was the best of both worlds. At the time LBT had hit the market with her 6094 plate carrier and a new "fashion" was emerging, that of a small plate carrier that could give you speed and  maneuverability of an MBSS f.e. and the abillity to carry a lot more equipment just like the CIRAS. But it didn't stop there, it introduced something entirely new, the versatility; you could have it as loaded or as minimal as you wanted. It was something so new that I remember some guys seeing me wearing my 6094 for the first time and they were like "dude you bought it way too small its over your hilum". And we have come to now days with the minimalist plate carriers the JPCs etc and of course the AVS.
Closing the history chapter the AVS is based on the same principles as the rest of Crye Precisions vests but it gives something that the others won't.........options. Both CP and the TMC comes in pieces you have the base which is the front and rear plate carrier. At the front you have the main velcro space, at the rear your typical molle webbing and a set of zippers if you want to add a back panel and then everything else is placed extra something like an accessory.

From there on, you have the inner cummerbund, the outer which comes in three options; a single, a two and a triple row cummerbunds. It goes without saying that the options are limitless you can go as minimal as having only the front and rear plate carriers and the two or three row cummerbunds and wear it underneath a softshell jacket or a shirt without the front mag flap. Or if things go south you just put on the mag flap or you attach the D3 chest rig by Haley Strategic via hook and loop system provided by various companies such as Mayflower etc.
Having the AVS more than a year now it has go through a lot I have tried all the modes from complete empty to fully loaded with the inner and the three row cummerbund, a D3 chest rig, PRC pouch, utillity pouch and double frag pouches. It has gone from simple training days to all day games with lots of running and walking from forests and mountains to CQBs and urban areas. At any time I hadn't sense any discomfort or lack of agility or any noise, it is well built even if it is a repro and by the end of day you will remember to remove to only because you will have to get in the car. It is so comfortable and light weight !
All in all, an innovative light and durable vest capable to incorporate three or more type of vests all in one and cover any type of mission or game you attend to.
That's all for now hope you enjoyed it. As always a special thanks to my best friend and photographer of Gear Bucket James Mushroom
Until next time have a nice day
 Dusty out
